Alleged Wrong-Way DUI Driver Causes 3-Car Crash on I-25, Sending 2 to Hospital

Two people were hospitalized early Sunday after a suspected drunk driver allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 25 near Denver, causing a three-car crash. A responding officer’s patrol car was also hit in a separate collision, but no one, including the officer, required hospitalization, police reported.

The incident began around 2 a.m. when Greenwood Village police and the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash on I-25 near Orchard Road. According to police, the suspected DUI driver was traveling north in the southbound lanes and struck two vehicles. Two people from those vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital.

While officers managed traffic at the crash site, an unrelated driver collided with one of the police cars involved in the response. Paramedics checked the officer at the scene and released him without further treatment.

The southbound lanes of I-25 remained closed for several hours but have since reopened. Both crashes remain under investigation, and authorities have not released updates on the victims’ conditions or potential charges.
