Pueblo D60 School Board Candidate Prioritizes Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Support

PUEBLO, Colo. — With the November elections approaching, Lucretia Robinson is among seven candidates competing for two open seats on the Pueblo School District 60 Board of Education. Robinson, a longtime youth advocate, says her top priorities include tackling bullying, expanding mental health resources, and improving communication within the district.

A Career Devoted to Youth & Community

Robinson brings decades of experience working with children and families. She spent part of her 27-year career with the Department of Corrections and Colorado Bluesky Enterprises, which supports individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. She also worked at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

Although Robinson previously ran for Pueblo City Council multiple times, this marks her first campaign for a school board seat — one with personal meaning, as her grandchildren attend schools within Pueblo D60.

Focus on Bullying & Mental Health

At an Aug. 15 “Date with a Candidate” event hosted by the Pueblo County Democratic Party, Robinson highlighted the emotional and social challenges students face, including bullying, identity struggles, and difficult home environments.

“We need to engage and we need to talk,” Robinson said. “We need to share some of those struggles that kids are having.”

She strongly advocates for increasing the number of mental health counselors in schools, emphasizing that teachers should focus on educating, not managing crises.

“We need to have mental health counselors in schools, just like we do our nurses,” Robinson explained. “Teachers are there to educate. They are not there to discipline.”

Vocational Training & Stakeholder Engagement

If elected, Robinson plans to push for more vocational training programs to provide students with practical career pathways. She also aims to collaborate with educators, parents, grandparents, and community members to create “growth opportunities” for students.

“The biggest, biggest thing is that we provide the services for our kids… that is our priority, and we need to have their voices heard,” Robinson told the Chieftain.

Election Outlook

The two open seats on the Pueblo D60 board are currently held by Brian Cisneros and Kathy DeNiro, both of whom are seeking re-election, according to the Colorado Transparency in Contribution and Expenditure Reporting (TRACER).
