CSPD: Man Killed After Allegedly Shooting at Officers

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A suspect died after allegedly firing shots at law enforcement on the east side of Colorado Springs on Friday, Aug. 22.

According to CSPD, officers from the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force and the tactical unit responded around 2:45 p.m. Friday to the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle to locate a wanted suspect. They found the suspect inside his car and attempted to make contact.

CSPD reported that officers identified themselves and ordered the man to step out of the vehicle, but he refused to comply. At that point, officers realized he was armed.

The suspect allegedly fired at least one shot at officers, prompting at least one officer to return fire and hit him. Officers provided emergency aid, but medical personnel later pronounced the suspect dead.

No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will handle the investigation.
