FORT OSAGE, Mo. — A 23-year-old Missouri father has been arrested after allegedly severely beating his 2-month-old son, leaving the infant with injuries so extensive that doctors compared them to “being dropped from a two-story window.”
Infant Found With Critical Injuries
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Fort Osage home around 7:15 a.m. Saturday after EMS reported a baby suffering from a serious head injury.
The infant was rushed to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where doctors discovered:
-
Internal cranial bleeding
-
Extensive bruising on the face, head, chest, abdomen, and limbs
-
Elevated liver enzymes, suggesting significant trauma
Medical staff quickly raised suspicions of physical abuse based on the injury patterns.
Father’s Conflicting Story
The father, identified as Storm L. Sinclair, initially claimed the baby had kicked and fallen onto a hard floor while he was burping him. Officers reported Sinclair repeatedly said, “I’m sorry.”
However, hospital staff determined that the severity of injuries did not match his explanation.
During a police interview, Sinclair allegedly confessed to multiple acts of abuse, including:
-
Hitting the baby’s back with an open hand
-
Punching the abdomen with a closed fist
-
Smacking the head and shaking the infant “as hard as he could”
Investigators confirmed that the injuries were consistent with deliberate abuse, not an accidental fall.
Legal Action & Upcoming Hearing
Sinclair has been charged with child abuse or neglect and was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. He posted 10% in cash and was released.
He is scheduled to appear in court on August 26 for a bond review hearing.
Authorities emphasized that the extent of trauma — including brain bleeding and severe bruising — pointed to intentional harm rather than an accident.
