CLAYCOMO, Mo. — A 19-year-old former McDonald’s employee has been accused of threatening to shoot up a metro-area location just days after being fired for bringing a firearm to work.
According to Clay County Circuit Court records filed on Aug. 15, Blaze M. Burgin, of Kansas City, faces a second-degree terrorist threat charge, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to four years.
Threat Made After Termination
A probable cause statement from the Claycomo Police Department revealed that on May 24, around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the McDonald’s after receiving reports that a former employee had called in a shooting threat.
According to investigators, Burgin allegedly phoned the restaurant and said:
“I’m going to get my gun, come up there and kill all of you [expletive].”
Management believed the threat stemmed from his termination three days earlier after he allegedly brought a firearm to the premises.
Burgin Admits Calling, Denies Intent
Burgin was taken into custody four days later. During his initial interview, both he and his partner denied making threats. However, after police returned about 30 minutes later for further questioning, Burgin admitted to calling the McDonald’s out of anger.
He claimed he never intended to harm anyone and did not own a real firearm, only a pellet pistol.
Court Proceedings
Court records show that Burgin has been formally charged and issued a criminal summons. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, at 9:05 a.m.
