Containment Progress Continues on Massive Northwest Colorado Wildfire

Firefighters made steady progress Monday in their fight against one of Colorado’s largest wildfires in history.

The Lee Fire, sparked by lightning near Meeker, has burned 137,485 acres and is now 61% contained, according to the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team. Despite hot weather, officials report no significant growth since Sunday.

The Elk Fire, which scorched 14,518 acres, is already fully contained.

A major weekend milestone included the reopening of Highway 13, restoring north–south travel between Meeker and Rifle.

Crews remain focused on extinguishing hot spots on the south and west perimeters, while recent progress has allowed officials to downgrade several evacuation zones.

Residents are encouraged to monitor U.S. Forest Service maps for the latest updates on fire activity and impacted areas.
