(COLORADO SPRINGS) — K9 Nyx proves you can fight crime in style. The Belgian Malinois with a love for pink booties and collars is more than just a fashionista — she’s a certified narcotics detection dog with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). With her sharp nose and fearless attitude, Nyx shows that beauty and brains can come on four paws.
Nyx splits her time between CSPD and the DEA’s Colorado Springs Resident Office, helping uncover hidden narcotics and occasionally joining patrols. Whether in her pink gear or a bullet- and stab-resistant vest, she’s always mission-ready.
On Jan. 19, 2025, CSPD’s “narcotics detection queen” showed off her skills again. The Metro Narcotics Unit (MNU) received a tip about a vehicle possibly transporting a large load of methamphetamine into Colorado Springs. After officers tracked down the truck and stopped it on I-25, Nyx stepped in to put her nose to work.
During an open-air sniff, Nyx quickly locked onto a familiar scent. Inside the vehicle’s bed, officers discovered two bins holding more than 100 pounds of methamphetamine — all thanks to her detection skills. CSPD proudly snapped a photo of Nyx with the seized drugs, celebrating her victory in keeping dangerous substances off the streets.
When she’s not chasing criminals, Nyx is busy chasing balls. Known as the ball-chasing champ, she can leap to impressive heights that would land her a starring role in an “Air Bud” sequel. Off duty, she prefers lounging in front of the TV, “critiquing” shows like Love is Blind and Too Hot to Handle while soaking up cuddles from her people.
Nyx brings grit, style, and plenty of tail wags to her work, keeping Colorado Springs both safe and stylish.
