Colorado Weather Blog: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Northeastern Counties

DENVER — Strong storms are expected Monday afternoon across northeastern Colorado, where the biggest threat will be large hail. Denver will likely only see general thunderstorms, but parts of the northeastern plains face a marginal to slight risk of severe weather. Wind gusts could reach 70 mph.

The Denver7 Weather Team is monitoring the latest storm reports and warnings:

Monday, August 18

5:05 p.m. | Logan, Washington County Storm
The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for a line of storms near Prewitt Reservoir to 5 miles southwest of Platner. The warning remains in effect until 5:45 p.m.

3:52 p.m. | Severe T-Storm Watch Issued
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for far northeastern Colorado counties. Storms could produce ping pong-sized hail and wind gusts up to 75 mph.

3:52 p.m. | Lincoln County Storm
Quarter-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible in a storm stretching from just southeast of Hugo to 6 miles southeast of Thurman.

3:48 p.m. | Kit Carson Storm
The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Cheyenne and western Kit Carson Counties until 4:30 p.m. for a line of storms from 7 miles southeast of Thurman to just southeast of Hugo.

3:30 p.m. | Adams, Arapahoe County Storm
A severe thunderstorm warning is in place until 3:45 p.m. for south central Adams and north central Arapahoe Counties. The storm cell is located 5 miles northwest of Byers.

3:04 p.m. | Lincoln County Storm
Golf ball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible with a storm 5 miles southwest of Arriba, moving southeast at 5 mph.

2:30 p.m. | Severe Thunderstorm Warning
North central Lincoln County is under a warning until 2:45 p.m. for a storm 15 miles north of Limon, moving southwest at 5 mph. Ping pong-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible.
