The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) is asking tenants to share honest feedback about their housing conditions.
Last week, staff left surveys on doors at Fusion Studios, seeking candid input from residents. The effort shows a willingness to face tough truths, and here’s how one tenant filled it out.
The survey begins with statements ranked from strongly agree (five) to strongly disagree (one), or not applicable.
Safety and Security
-
Physical safety: Score: 3 (neutral). The tenant recalls being assaulted last July by a resident wielding a lead pipe. Though security responded well, safety concerns remain since officers stay mostly in the lobby. A new direct-call line to security from rooms has helped.
-
Security services: Score: 4 (agree). Overall, security does a decent job, though some guards seem hesitant to confront residents.
-
Emotional safety: Score: 2 (disagree). Some residents are unpredictable—loud, drunk, or even aggressive. One recently shoved the tenant out of an elevator.
Community Rules and Living Space
-
Enforcement of guidelines: Score: 5 (strongly agree). Disciplinary actions and evictions are happening more consistently, including for noise complaints.
-
Apartment quality: Score: 4 (agree). Appliances and HVAC are in good condition, though the building’s TV antenna has been broken for weeks. Landline phones were recently restored after outages.
Staff Relations
The tenant disagreed with statements about communication and respect. For example, a therapist once mocked their shoes, and confusion over transferring to a new apartment left them in limbo. A senior program manager—since gone—also disrespected them after they wrote about a rodent infestation.
Still, most staff are described as professional, friendly, and dedicated, though some are very young and inexperienced.
Healthcare and Improvements
Healthcare through CCH is praised as excellent. Living conditions at Fusion have also improved significantly over the years, with current managers showing strong leadership and communication.
In closing, the tenant acknowledges that while challenges remain, CCH is making notable progress at Fusion under difficult circumstances.
