Teen Killed, Another Injured in Early Morning Shooting on East 97th Street

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting that left one teenager dead and another injured early Sunday morning on the 1700 block of East 97th Street.

Officers were dispatched just after 12:15 a.m. following reports of gunfire. A bystander told police that several people had been involved in an altercation that ended with shots fired in a nearby parking lot. All individuals fled before officers arrived.

Police later learned that a juvenile male and a juvenile female, both under 16, had been taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. The male victim died at the hospital, while the female is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made, and investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting. Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel remain at the scene, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
