Walgreens to Shutter 3 More Stores in Early September

Walgreens is moving forward with more closures as part of its nationwide “footprint optimization program” aimed at cutting costs. Within the next 30 days, three additional locations will close their doors:

  • 950 South Quebec Street, Denver, CO – Closing Sept. 8

  • 6200 East Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO – Closing Sept. 10

  • 585 Washington Street, Dorchester, Boston, MA – Closing Sept. 10

The move comes amid widespread consolidation in the pharmacy industry. Walgreens, which now owns former competitor Rite Aid, has been reducing overlapping locations to streamline operations.

While the strategy may improve efficiency in the face of growing e-commerce competition, the closures mean job losses and reduced local access to retail pharmacy services — a significant blow for affected communities.
