Motorcyclist Who Died After Colorado Springs Crash Identified as 26-Year-Old Matthew Campbell

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The El Paso County Coroner has identified the motorcyclist who died after a crash on South Academy Boulevard and Pace Drive as 26-year-old Matthew Campbell, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) announced Tuesday, Aug. 12.

CSPD said the crash happened on Tuesday, July 29, around 8 a.m. Officers responded to the intersection of Academy and Pace and found Campbell with life-threatening injuries after a collision between his motorcycle and a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined that Campbell was speeding southbound on Academy when a northbound vehicle turned left onto Pace Drive in front of him.

On Thursday, July 31, CSPD learned Campbell had died from his injuries. The coroner’s office confirmed his identity after an autopsy.

This marks the 33rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2025. By this time in 2024, the city had recorded 32 traffic fatalities.
