Colorado Springs police search home linked to incendiary device from traffic stop

Police in Colorado Springs were searching an east-side home Monday morning connected to an incendiary device discovered during a traffic stop last week.

On Thursday, officers arrested Anthony Lopez after stopping his vehicle near North Carefree Circle and Hammock Drive for a registration violation. According to CSPD’s K9 Unit, police found a “suspicious object” taped to a bottle, which was later determined to be an incendiary device with an improvised explosive component.

On Monday, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Chelton Road, between Galley Road and Platte Avenue. CSPD confirmed the search was related to Lopez and the device found in his car.

As of the latest update, officers — including members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit — remained on the scene conducting the search.
