In a major win for Arizona, Attorney General Kris Mayes has secured $1.5 billion in federal funds, preventing cuts to vital programs amid ongoing legal clashes over the Trump administration’s financial actions. According to her office, this funding safeguard will keep essential services—ranging from healthcare to transportation—running while the legal disputes continue.
Mayes is currently involved in 25 lawsuits against former President Trump, focusing on what she calls his unlawful obstruction of congressionally approved funding. Protecting these funds is a significant victory for residents who depend on them. Notable allocations include more than $73 million for the Arizona Department of Homeland Security and $186 million for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.
These amounts have a direct impact on daily life in the state. The Arizona Department of Transportation will receive $322 million for infrastructure, while the Department of Environmental Quality gets $53 million to protect Arizona’s natural resources. Lawsuits like NY et al v. Trump and California v. McMahon stand as critical defenses against potential budget disruptions.
Mayes stressed the importance of this fight, saying, “These aren’t just numbers, they are an incredible return on investment for the work my office is doing to protect Arizonans and uphold the Constitution.” She also underscored the ongoing legal efforts to ensure taxpayers and communities are not burdened by what her office views as unlawful actions by the Trump administration.
