Kindhearted Officers Rescue Two “Pitbulls” — and Discover They’re Gentle Sweethearts

In Colorado Springs this week, two large dogs running loose along North Academy Boulevard prompted several concerned calls to police. To some residents, they looked intimidating — “pitbulls” on the run.

Officers Womack and Tait of the Colorado Springs Police Department responded, quickly realizing the dogs were scared, overheated, and had slipped out of their yard through a broken fence. Despite the breed’s often-misunderstood reputation, the officers approached with patience, offering cheese and calm voices until the dogs felt safe.

They provided fresh water and stayed with the pair until their relieved owner — who had been frantically searching — arrived. Far from dangerous, the two dogs were simply thirsty, frightened, and grateful for the kindness shown.

Thanks to Officers Womack and Tait, the day ended not with fear, but with wagging tails and a safe trip home.
