EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A 33-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her cell at the El Paso County Jail early Friday, marking the facility’s second in-custody death in just over two weeks.
The sheriff’s office said deputies and medical staff began life-saving efforts around 5:30 a.m., with assistance from American Medical Response and Colorado Springs Fire Department, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m.
Sheriff Joseph Roybal has ordered an investigation, noting there is currently no evidence of foul play or self-harm.
The incident follows the July 24 death of 47-year-old Paula Orth, who was also found in her cell.
