Alleged Incendiary Device Discovered During Colorado Springs Traffic Stop

COLORADO SPRINGS — A late-night traffic stop led to the arrest of a man after police allegedly found an incendiary device in his vehicle.

Just before midnight on Thursday, Aug. 7, a Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officer pulled over a car on North Carefree Circle near Palmer Park for registration violations. During the stop, the officer learned the driver did not have a valid Colorado driver’s license.

With both the registration and license invalid, the vehicle was set to be impounded. While conducting an inventory search before towing, officers located what they believed to be an incendiary device.

CSPD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) responded to the scene, investigated the item, and safely removed it for disposal.

The driver, identified as Anthony Lopez, was arrested on charges of possessing the device along with multiple traffic violations. He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
