Arrest Papers Reveal Details in Pueblo City Park Skatepark Shootout

Newly released arrest affidavits shed light on the July 10 shootout at Pueblo’s City Park Skatepark, involving suspected carjackers and off-duty Colorado corrections workers.

Four men — Quincy Stephens, 20; Damion Trujillo, 20; Marcus Pechek, 19; and Juaquin Trujillo, 19 — face charges of attempted second-degree homicide and aggravated robbery. A 16-year-old suspect remains at large.

What Happened That Night

Around 2:40 a.m., police responded to a hospital where a juvenile male with a gunshot wound — later identified as one of the suspects — said he and friends were at the Sgt. Blake A. Harris Skateboard Park when “everything happened.”
Another suspect and one of the corrections workers also showed up at a different hospital with gunshot wounds.

At the skatepark, police found:

  • 75 spent shell casings from three different calibers

  • Two live 9mm rounds

  • A stolen 9mm handgun with 11 live cartridges

  • An empty 9mm magazine

  • A large puddle of blood

The Confrontation

Corrections workers from the Centennial Correctional Facility told police they went to the skatepark after work. They were approached by a teenage boy, who later returned to a red van with four young men inside.

The group in the van asked for rolling papers. After one corrections worker handed them over, a suspect allegedly tried to keep them all, sparking an argument. Guns were drawn on both sides, and shots were exchanged.

When the shooting stopped, the suspects fled in the van, leaving behind Stephens, who was wounded. Corrections employees took him and their injured coworker to the hospital.

Statements from Stephens

Stephens told police that before the gunfire, his companions discussed “sharking” — stealing a corrections worker’s vehicle. He said someone handed him a gun, but he returned it, not wanting to participate. He claimed he “hung back” during the shootout and may have been shot by either his own group or the other side.

Arrests and Court Dates

Police later arrested the other three adult suspects. The juvenile suspect is still at large.

  • Stephens and Damion Trujillo remain in custody.

  • Pechek was released after six days in jail; Juaquin Trujillo was released after three days.

Upcoming hearings:

  • Stephens: Aug. 21 (first appearance)

  • Pechek: Aug. 14 (plea hearing)

  • Damion Trujillo: Aug. 14 (bond hearing)

  • Juaquin Trujillo: Aug. 14 (setting)
