Arizona State Senator Analise Ortiz says she has received death threats and faces possible legal action after using social media to alert residents about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.
Ortiz claims she’s been targeted with calls for her arrest, deportation, and even threats to her safety, despite being a U.S. citizen born and raised in Arizona. “It’s disgusting,” she told ABC15, adding that some people say they know her address.
Her posts drew the attention of the conservative account Libs of TikTok, which accused her of “actively impeding and doxxing ICE by posting their live locations.” In response, Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen asked the U.S. attorney to investigate whether her actions violated federal law.
“I am not intimidated by this,” Ortiz said. “What I did was simply alert my community to stay away from an area where ICE could be, to keep themselves safe. That is First Amendment-protected speech.” She argued that her posts were no different from apps that warn drivers of speed cameras, noting that even legal residents have been detained during ICE raids.
Republican leaders condemned Ortiz’s actions. Petersen said public officials should support, not undermine, law enforcement. State Senator Jake Hoffman called for her removal from the Arizona Senate and announced plans to file an ethics complaint, accusing her of endangering ICE agents.
Governor Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, opposed prosecuting Ortiz over social media posts but voiced concern about officer safety during raids. Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin took a harder stance, accusing Ortiz of siding with “vicious cartels, human traffickers, and violent criminals over American citizens” and warning that publicizing ICE operations undermines national security.
