The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting several domestic violence murders this year, and experts stress that domestic violence isn’t limited to intimate partners — it can also involve family members and close friends.
One metro woman says she learned that the hard way. Twenty-two-year-old Teighlor Farris shared how she was brutally assaulted last month by someone she considered a close and trusted friend. That man now faces two counts of domestic assault and battery in Cleveland County.
Graphic photos show the extent of Farris’s injuries.
“The assault broke both sides of my nose, my septum,” Farris said. “He broke all the bones around my eye socket. They were worried about my eye falling in, so that was all crushed.”
Her injuries weren’t just visible.
“I’ve had really bad headaches, been passing out,” she said. “I have to go to a concussion specialist.”
According to Farris, her alleged attacker slammed her face in a car door and punched her repeatedly.
“I couldn’t drive, I couldn’t go to work, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t garden — I couldn’t do anything for three weeks,” she said. “While he was just out around hanging out with friends, hanging with his family.”
Farris has obtained a victim’s protective order against the suspect, identified in court records as Tyler Jones. He has been ordered to wear a GPS monitor and is barred from contacting her as the criminal case proceeds.
“She honestly could have died,” said her sister, Kameron Thomas. “And as my little sister, that’s scary — not only because of how small she is, but because of how quickly it could have turned into something even worse.”
For Farris, the betrayal adds another layer of pain.
“It’s someone I cared about and loved and was a really good friend,” she said. “I never thought anything like this would happen to me.”
Still recovering and struggling financially after missing work, Farris has launched a GoFundMe to help cover housing, medical, and legal expenses.
Jones is scheduled for a court hearing next Tuesday, with a separate hearing for the protective order set for next month.
