ICE Seeks Public’s Help in Locating Fugitive Suspect in Colorado Springs Agent Assault Case

DENVER — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is asking for the public’s help in locating Jose Mendez-Chavez, a fugitive still at large following an attempted ramming of an ICE agent near Colorado Springs last week.

The incident occurred on July 31 in the Black Forest area, where two suspects allegedly tried to use their vehicle to ram an ICE officer. A second agent responded by firing three shots into the suspects’ car. Both men fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind.

ICE later arrested Francisco Zapata-Pacheco, the vehicle’s passenger, around 2 p.m. the same day. He is currently cooperating with the investigation.

However, the driver, identified as Mendez-Chavez, has not been found. ICE has issued a call for tips through social media but is releasing limited information about his possible whereabouts.

The agency has not confirmed whether they believe Mendez-Chavez is still in the Colorado Springs area or elsewhere in Colorado. They simply urged the public: “If you have seen this alien, report a sighting to us.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact ICE’s tip line at 866-347-2423. No reward is currently being offered for tips leading to Mendez-Chavez’s capture.
