Tornado Confirmed Near Woodland Park by NWS

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo has confirmed a tornado touched down west of Woodland Park during a storm on Wednesday, July 30.

Survey Confirms EF-1 Tornado

A damage survey conducted on Monday, Aug. 4 revealed widespread tree damage, prompting NWS to confirm a tornado touchdown about six miles west of Woodland Park at 1:55 p.m. The tornado was rated EF-1, with estimated peak winds of 110 mph, and it traveled approximately 0.8 miles with a path width of 50 yards.

Evidence of Tornado Damage

According to the NWS:

  • Numerous softwood trees were uprooted, with some snapped.

  • Tree patterns indicated cyclonic rotation along the tornado’s path.

  • The end of the damage trail was inaccessible due to a tangle of downed trees.

Another Tornado Confirmed Earlier in June

Back in June, the NWS also confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Teller County, about two miles northeast of Divide, which damaged 15.5 acres.

Tornadoes in Higher Terrain

Though less common, high-elevation tornadoes do occur. In Colorado, tornadoes have been reported as early as February and as late as November, but peak tornado season typically runs from May to August.
