FIRST ALERT: High Wildfire Risk Continues in Western Colorado Through Friday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Western Colorado remains under Red Flag Warnings through Friday.

Red Flag Warnings in Effect

Red Flag Warnings will stay active until 8 PM tonight across Western Colorado and parts of Eastern Utah. These warnings signal ideal conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly, thanks to low humidity, dry vegetation, and wind gusts up to 35 mph.

The warnings will return:

  • Wednesday (11 AM – 8 PM): Central and northern Western Colorado + parts of Eastern Utah

  • Thursday & Friday (11 AM – 8 PM): Western Colorado + Eastern Utah

Winds are expected to pick up between 11 AM and 8 PM, with gusts reaching the 20s and 30s mph range. Authorities strongly advise against any outdoor burning, and Mesa County’s No Burn Advisory remains in effect until further notice.

Air Quality Health Advisory

  • Western Dolores County: Advisory in effect until 9 AM Tuesday due to heavy smoke from the Sharp Canyon fire.

  • Routt, Grand, Rio Blanco, Eagle, Garfield, and Jackson Counties: Advisory continues until 9 AM Tuesday, as wildfires in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties are sending heavy smoke across the area.

Most of Western Colorado will also be affected by wildfire smoke drifting in from Utah and Arizona, leading to poor air quality throughout the week.
⚠️ If visibility drops below 5 miles, the air is considered unhealthy to breathe.
