A dramatic scene unfolded in Oklahoma City on Sunday morning after a suspect allegedly rammed into an ICE agent’s car, then fled on foot and forced his way into a nearby home, according to Oklahoma City Police.
Authorities say the suspect, 26-year-old Julio Ramirez, took off after the crash. Police launched a search using canines but couldn’t locate him right away.
Officers eventually focused on a nearby house, but no one answered the door when they attempted to make contact. During the investigation, a resident drove by and told police the suspect had broken into the home.
“At that point, we were able to get a hold of the victims by phone and tell them they absolutely needed to come out,” said Captain Benjamin Weir. “Whenever the victims came out of the house, the suspect then decided that was a good time to give up.”
Ramirez surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed there were two people inside the home when Ramirez allegedly entered. He now faces several charges in Oklahoma County, including burglary, looting, and assault and battery on a police officer.
While it appears ICE agents may have taken custody of Ramirez, News 4 has not confirmed his current status or location, and it’s unclear if federal charges will be filed.
The motive behind the initial vehicle collision with ICE agents remains unknown.
