Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested one of two suspects who allegedly tried to ram a vehicle used by agents during an enforcement operation in Colorado.
Francisco Zapata-Pacheco was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, the same day the incident occurred, according to an ICE spokesperson. The attempted assault happened in the Black Forest area of El Paso County, northeast of Colorado Springs.
ICE said agents opened fire on the suspects’ vehicle when it moved toward them aggressively. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.
The second suspect, Jose Mendez-Chavez, remains at large. ICE identified him as being in the country illegally and said he has a prior criminal history. He is wanted for assault on a federal officer.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what charges Zapata-Pacheco will face.
