Colorado State Patrol to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoints Across the State in August

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies this August to target impaired driving through a series of statewide sobriety checkpoints.

The first two checkpoints will be held on Friday, August 15—one on Highway 16 in Fountain and another on Highway 119 in Gilpin County. Additional checkpoints are scheduled for August 22 on Highway 550 in Ridgeway and August 23 in Archuleta County.

CSP emphasized that the main goal of these checkpoints is to promote public safety rather than make arrests. “Through high-visibility, responsible driving enforcement events, troopers will also address those who make the poor decision to drive intoxicated,” the agency stated.

Drivers are reminded that impaired driving includes not just alcohol, but also prescription medications, marijuana, or any substance that can impair one’s ability to drive safely.
