FIRST ALERT: Elevated Wildfire Risk Begins Monday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Fire danger is on the rise again across Western Colorado and Eastern Utah, starting Monday and continuing through at least Tuesday.

Fire Weather Alerts

  • Red Flag Warnings are active Monday from 11 AM to 9 PM due to:

    • Low humidity

    • Dry fuels

    • Wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph

  • A Fire Weather Watch has already been issued for Tuesday and may be upgraded to another Red Flag Warning. These conditions make it easy for wildfires to start and spread rapidly.

  • Mesa County has issued a No Burn Advisory, prohibiting all types of outdoor burning until further notice.

Air Quality Health Advisory

  • A Health Advisory is in effect until 9 AM Monday for:

    • Central and eastern Rio Blanco County

    • Eastern Garfield County

    • Western Eagle County

Heavy smoke from the Grease Fire, Elk Fire, and Coulter Creek Fire may impact these areas. If visibility drops below 5 miles, the air quality is considered hazardous. While most of Western Colorado may see lighter smoke, shifting winds could bring in occasional heavier smoke from wildfires in Utah and Arizona.
