Victim in Colorado Springs road rage hit-and-run dies, suspect now charged with murder

The Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed Friday night that the victim in a road rage hit-and-run has died.

The suspect, 39-year-old Daniel Nations, was initially charged with assault but is now facing a murder charge, according to court documents.

The incident occurred on Union Boulevard near Palmer Park Boulevard and began as a road rage altercation on July 24. Police said one driver exited their vehicle to confront Nations, who then ran the person over and fled the scene.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified.

Nations has a lengthy criminal record, including a 2017 incident in which he threatened hikers with a hatchet near Mount Herman in the Palmer Lake area.

He was also questioned in connection with the 2017 shooting death of Timothy Watkins near Mount Herman, though he was never arrested. That case remains unsolved.
