COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A man accused in a deadly carjacking that claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman in April 2024 has pleaded guilty to murder.
Nathaniel Buchmann, who initially pleaded not guilty last year, changed his plea on Thursday in connection with the death of Dorothy King.
Police say the attack happened on the afternoon of April 17, 2024, in the parking lot of Bingo World, where King worked. Buchmann allegedly assaulted her during a carjacking attempt. As King tried to fight him off, she was thrown from her vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Despite efforts by first responders, she died at the scene. Buchmann was arrested the following day.
In court, Buchmann pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree motor vehicle theft. As part of the plea agreement, a separate 2023 case against him will be dropped.
According to courtroom reports, Buchmann agreed to 48 years in prison for the murder charge and 4 to 12 years for the theft charge. The judge will determine at sentencing whether those terms will run concurrently or consecutively.
His sentencing is scheduled for October 27.
