Father Arrested in Colorado Springs After Infant Found with Serious Injuries

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has arrested a 23-year-old man after a two-month-old baby was found with significant, non-accidental injuries.

On Wednesday evening, CSPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit received a report of suspected child abuse involving the infant. After beginning their investigation, detectives determined that the baby’s father, Jonathan Begay, was responsible for the injuries.

Working alongside caseworkers from the Department of Human Services (DHS), officers arrested Begay on the following felony charges:

  • Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Class 3 Felony)

  • Second-Degree Assault (Class 4 Felony)

Begay is being booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Authorities urge anyone who suspects a child is being abused or neglected to report it immediately. You can contact CSPD at (719) 444-7000 or the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at (844) CO-4-KIDS.
