While a scorching heat wave grips much of the U.S., Florida is facing its own extreme weather—tornadoes.
One powerful tornado ripped through the city of Largo with such force and speed that it lifted a house off the ground and dropped it back down in nearly the same spot.
AccuWeather shared the dramatic scene, captured on a Ring camera. According to their report, a 76-year-old woman was inside the home when the tornado hit, lifted the structure, and set it down again. Remarkably, she made it through unharmed.
“A likely tornado lifted a house up and then set it back down again in Largo, Florida, on Wednesday. A 76-year-old woman was inside the home at the time and survived the incident,” AccuWeather shared on X.
Social media users were stunned by the footage (no pun intended). Many pointed out that the house looked like a mobile home that hadn’t been properly secured, and said the woman was fortunate it wasn’t completely blown away.
“The fact that the TV was still on when the mobile home came crashing down is amazing,” one user wrote on X.
“Mobile home not tied down it appears. It could have ended up 3 miles away, but they got lucky,” wrote another.
“It was just vacuuming under the house like when you lift the sofa up,” a third joked.
“And it looks like the TV was still working afterwards! How in the world did that happen?”
“This is just incredible on so many levels! The house lifts, and stays on its edge, then falls. Meanwhile, the golf cart and carport are untouched. Unbelievable!”
“Tornado picked it up, swept underneath, and set it back down. Damn thing did better than my own kids!”
Tornadoes can be mesmerizing to witness up close—their sudden arrival, the destruction they cause, and how quickly they disappear is unlike almost any other weather event.
Still, it likely felt anything but fascinating for the woman who had to experience it firsthand.
Here’s hoping everyone stays safe as these storms continue.
