Pueblo police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting of a 13-year-old girl earlier this month near the Pueblo Riverwalk.
Romello Hernandez was taken into custody on July 24 and is facing charges of attempted first-degree homicide, according to police. The shooting occurred around 2:50 a.m. on July 14 near the 200 block of West Riverwalk, in a parking lot by Lake Elizabeth.
When officers arrived, they found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, said Bianca Hicks, spokesperson for the Pueblo Police Department. However, as of July 29, Capt. Dustin Taylor confirmed that her condition had improved and she was no longer critical.
Hernandez is currently being held in Pueblo County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to appear before Judge William Alexander on July 31.
