Four people who died in a crash earlier this month at South Powers Boulevard and East Fountain Boulevard have been identified.
The victims are:
-
A 17-year-old girl (name withheld due to age)
-
18-year-old Bryan Jaramillo
-
19-year-old Gabriel Zelayia
-
20-year-old Janet Pino-Lopez
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), these are the city’s 26th through 29th traffic fatalities this year.
Police say this crash, along with another on July 5, killed six people between the ages of 17 and 20. Both incidents involved speeding, alcohol, and lack of seatbelt use.
Crash Details
The crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. at the intersection near the Colorado Springs Airport.
When officers arrived, they found two people—Jaramillo and the 17-year-old—dead at the scene. Zelayia, who was driving, and Pino-Lopez were transported to the hospital, where they died from their injuries a few days later. All four were in the same vehicle.
The driver of the other car was also hospitalized, but their name and condition have not been released.
CSPD’s investigation revealed that Zelayia was driving a blue SUV southbound on South Powers Boulevard at a high speed. He collided with the front end of a black SUV traveling northbound and turning left onto westbound East Fountain Boulevard.
