A shoplifting incident in Colorado Springs turned violent on Sunday evening when a suspect pulled out a gun after employees and customers tried to stop the theft.
The situation unfolded around 7 p.m. at the Broadmoor Towne Center near Southgate Road and Lake Avenue. Police say a man and a woman were seen taking items from a store with no intention of paying.
According to a CSPD lieutenant, the man left the store, went to his vehicle, grabbed a gun, and waited outside near the entrance. Meanwhile, the woman attempted to walk out with the stolen merchandise.
When staff and customers confronted her, the male suspect returned and threatened to shoot everyone involved.
Faced with the threat, those present backed off, and the suspects escaped with the stolen items. They were last seen fleeing to a car and driving away.
Police have only confirmed that both suspects are white. No other identifying details or the name of the business have been released.
