A man and woman from Colorado Springs were arrested over the weekend after deputies discovered fentanyl and methamphetamine during a vehicle search in Cañon City.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests happened around 11:19 p.m. Saturday, when deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Humboldt Drive and Longs Peak Lane.
Deputies identified the occupants as 41-year-old Jacob Heuvel and 49-year-old Amy Michels, both residents of Colorado Springs. A search of their vehicle uncovered 98 fentanyl pills and 7.5 grams of meth.
Both were taken into custody and booked into the Fremont County Detention Center. Charges include unlawful possession with intent to distribute Schedule I or II controlled substances, unlawful possession of Schedule I or II controlled substances, second-degree introduction of contraband, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
By Monday, Heuvel and Michels had been released on personal recognizance bonds granted by Magistrate Claire Lebeau.
“These arrests highlight the ongoing concern for community safety, as Colorado judges continue to release offenders back into our communities on personal recognizance bonds, time and time again,” said Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper.
