LARKSPUR, Colo. — The Colorado Renaissance Festival is celebrating a record-breaking year in its 48th season, drawing massive crowds and even hitting its first-ever sellout.
From jousting tournaments to giant turkey legs, this long-running event has become a summer staple for Coloradans—and it’s more popular than ever. Organizers credit its unique charm and immersive experience for the surge in attendance.
“We came the first few times just as patrons,” said John Winchester, now the front gate manager. “Then we started traveling from festival to festival. Now this is what we do full time.”
Winchester is one of many who have made the Renaissance Festival a lifestyle, contributing to its tight-knit community and welcoming atmosphere.
Unmatched Growth and a Loyal Crowd
Festival vice president Jim Paradise says the event has seen steady growth over the past 5 to 6 years, thanks to a combination of entertainment, crafts, and classic festival food.
“The uniqueness of our event has helped. We’ve had tremendous attendance and success,” Paradise said. “People are really proud of what we’re doing.”
This year’s crowd was so large, it caused a two-mile traffic backup on I-25 and led to a new crowd control measure—capping weekly online ticket sales to maintain the quality of the experience.
“We want people to enjoy themselves and come back,” Paradise added. “Limiting ticket sales has helped make it better for everyone.”
A Festival Built on Passion and Community
Behind the scenes, it’s the dedication of staff and cast members that keeps the magic alive.
“Everybody cares about providing that immersive experience,” Winchester said. “That’s what makes this community so tight.”
The Colorado Renaissance Festival runs through August 3, continuing to enchant visitors with its blend of history, fantasy, and fun.
