Colorado’s scorching heat will hold on for two more days, with near-record temperatures expected Sunday and Monday before cooler weather and rain arrive midweek.
Temperatures along the Front Range are forecast to reach the upper 90s on Sunday, just shy of the 98-degree record set in 1964. Monday could be even hotter, with a chance of tying or surpassing the 100-degree record.
Triple-digit highs are also expected across many Eastern Plains towns through Monday.
By Tuesday, a weak cold front will bring some much-needed relief. Highs will drop into the 80s and upper 70s, aligning more closely with seasonal averages. Rain showers are expected across the state Tuesday night, and some areas could see heavy downpours with localized flooding.
The rainfall is especially welcome in western Colorado, where drought conditions and high fire danger remain a concern.
