Colorado Rep. Jason Crow slammed former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard on Sunday, accusing her of becoming a “weapon of mass distraction” for Donald Trump by pushing debunked claims about Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Crow criticized Gabbard’s recent allegation that President Obama and his national security team intentionally misled the public about Russia’s election meddling. Gabbard and Trump have both claimed the Obama administration fabricated the intelligence report, with Gabbard calling it an act of “treason.”
“She’s trying to curry favor with Donald Trump and has concocted these theories to do so,” Crow said. “It would be sad if they weren’t so dangerous.”
Crow pointed out that four separate investigations — including a bipartisan Senate probe during Trump’s first term — supported the conclusion that Russia interfered in the election to benefit Trump. He emphasized that there’s been no new credible evidence since then.
Gabbard and Trump’s Claims Reignite Partisan Tensions
Gabbard said newly declassified documents offer “irrefutable evidence” that Obama officials manipulated intelligence. Republicans have rallied around her claims, with Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) arguing that this information had been kept from Republicans for years.
“We’ve been trying for eight years to get our work product released,” said Crawford, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee. “We are trying to reinstill trust with the American people.”
Crawford also reignited GOP focus on the controversial Steele dossier, which he claimed was “bought and paid for” by the Clinton campaign. He called for former CIA Director John Brennan to testify under oath again, accusing him of lying in past testimony about Russian interference.
Democrats Push Back, Cite Epstein Distraction
Crow dismissed the focus on the dossier as a “red herring” and said the renewed attention on Obama’s intelligence team is a distraction tactic tied to Trump’s fear of the Epstein investigation.
“This is being reinvigorated because Donald Trump doesn’t want to talk about the Epstein files,” Crow said.
Obama-era officials have brushed off Gabbard’s accusations as “ridiculous,” while Democrats continue to warn that false claims of treason threaten to erode public trust in U.S. intelligence agencies.
