Kansas City Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday evening near 18th and Prospect.
Officers were dispatched just after 7:15 p.m. following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, a witness who heard several shots directed them to the area.
Police found an unresponsive adult male in a grassy area near a convenience store. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. EMS arrived to assist and began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Several witnesses stayed at the scene and have helped detectives identify a person of interest—an adult male who fled in an unknown direction.
Investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting.
