CSPD: Man arrested after trying to fight bar patrons

COLORADO SPRINGS — A man was arrested by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) after allegedly trying to fight people at a bar and injuring an officer.

Just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, officers responded to a disturbance at a bar in the 7600 block of North Union Boulevard, near Briargate Boulevard. Staff had physically restrained a man who was reportedly trying to fight other patrons.

When officers arrived, the suspect got into a verbal argument with a woman at the scene and became aggressive with police. While being taken into custody, he punched one officer in the face and caused minor injuries to another. Both officers remained on duty.

The suspect, 33-year-old Ruben Lovoto, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstruction, and Resisting Arrest. He was booked into the El Paso Criminal Justice Center on the morning of Thursday, July 24.
