High Flood Threat Issued for Colorado’s Front Range Through Wednesday Night

DENVER (KDVR) — A high flood threat alert has been issued for much of Colorado’s Front Range and will remain in effect until Wednesday night.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board released the alert at 10:40 a.m., with FOX31 meteorologist Travis Michels reporting that storms are expected to arrive in the area this afternoon and may continue into the evening.

Counties affected in the Front Range include portions of Larimer, Boulder, and Jefferson.

The alert warns that rainfall totals could range from two to three inches within a one to three-hour period, with the heaviest activity expected between 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Storms may trigger debris slides, mudflows, and heavy runoff. This excessive runoff could lead to ponding in low-lying areas, road flooding, and rising water levels in nearby creeks and streams.

A moderate flood threat has also been issued for the adjacent eastern plains of Colorado.
