‘Dangerous’ Highway 60 Named Deadliest Road in Colorado

While driving can be relaxing—whether it’s taking back roads with your favorite music or catching up on podcasts—not every drive is a smooth one. Poorly maintained roads, heavy traffic, and long commutes can all contribute to a more dangerous driving experience.

Car Insurance Comparison recently compiled a list of the deadliest highways in each state, identifying the roads with the highest average fatality rates.

In Colorado, Highway 60 topped the list as the most dangerous, with an average of 11 fatalities per year. Though this number is alarming, it’s still far lower than Florida’s deadliest highway, which sees an average of 108 fatalities annually.

Here’s what Car Insurance Comparison shared about their methodology in identifying America’s most dangerous highways:

“According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Americans drive around four trillion miles each year—about 14,500 miles per person. With so much time spent on the road, it’s no surprise that traffic accidents result in thousands of deaths. In 2020 alone, 38,000 people lost their lives in crashes, marking a 7% increase from 2019. While accidents can happen anywhere, some roads pose a higher risk than others.”
