As of June 18, Colorado had reported 16 measles cases and four hospitalizations this year, with no fatalities. According to CDPHE, most cases occur after travel or in under-vaccinated communities. Before 2025, the last reported case in the state was in December 2023.
Health officials urge everyone to get vaccinated, stressing that the measles vaccine is the most effective way to protect yourself and others. Common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a distinctive rash that typically begins on the face before spreading.
If you were at any of the exposure sites and begin to show symptoms, contact your healthcare provider by phone right away. If you don’t have a provider, call an urgent care center or emergency room and mention your potential exposure. Calling ahead helps prevent further spread of the virus.
