Colorado Dentist on Trial Allegedly Asked Daughter to Make Deepfake to Blame Wife for Her Own Death

James Craig, the Colorado dentist accused of murdering his wife Angela in 2023, is now facing even more disturbing allegations: he allegedly asked his daughter to create a deepfake video to falsely portray Angela as suicidal.

Craig is accused of poisoning his wife’s smoothies with arsenic, cyanide, and tetrahydrozoline, and continuing to poison her even after she was hospitalized. Prosecutors say this was part of a deliberate plan to make her death look self-inflicted while secretly carrying on an affair and covering up financial troubles.

On July 17, 2025, Craig’s daughter testified in court that he handed her a letter with step-by-step instructions on how to create a deepfake video of her mother. The goal: make it appear that Angela had asked Craig to order the deadly substances. The daughter said the letter was clearly written in her father’s handwriting.

The chilling letter included instructions to:

  • Buy a cheap laptop

  • Use a private network and dark web browser

  • Pay with a prepaid Visa card

  • Backdate the video to before Angela’s death

  • Burn it onto thumb drives and pretend to discover them in Angela’s bag

  • Destroy the laptop afterward

Craig wrote that he was asking his daughter because she was “stoic and practical” like her mother and the most “technologically adept” of his children. She testified the request made her feel “disappointed, confused, and emotional.”

The daughter also served as a caretaker for her mother during her illness, often taking her to the hospital and helping with her younger siblings. Angela Craig was hospitalized three times in March 2023 and died on March 18 after a seizure.

A probable cause affidavit revealed Angela had recently confided in her sister about Craig’s alleged gambling losses and mismanagement of his dental practice. She also suspected he was having an affair.

Craig has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder, perjury, and tampering with evidence.
