Oklahoma City Faces Heat Advisory as Index Nears 109 Degrees

OKLAHOMA CITY — A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 PM to 7 PM CDT today as scorching temperatures and high humidity push the heat index up to 109°F, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Clear skies and actual highs in the upper 90s are expected across central, east central, northern, northwest, southeast, southern, and southwest Oklahoma, as well as parts of northern Texas. But it’s the combination of heat and humidity that makes conditions especially dangerous.

The NWS urges residents to stay hydrated, seek air-conditioned spaces, and limit outdoor exposure. Light, breathable clothing and checking on neighbors and elderly family members can go a long way in preventing heat-related illnesses.

Evenings will bring only modest relief, with lows staying in the mid to upper 70s. The advisory also recommends scheduling outdoor work or exercise during early morning or evening hours.
