2 Men Charged in June 2024 Crime Spree Targeting Banks and Businesses

Two men are facing federal charges in connection with a two-week robbery spree that hit banks and businesses across Kansas City, Missouri, in June 2024.

Makih Hall, 21, and Lazaro Medina-Lopez, 29, are accused of working together to carry out several robberies between June 1 and June 14, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City.

Both men have been charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, two counts of aiding and abetting Hobbs Act robbery, attempted Hobbs Act robbery, and aiding and abetting bank robbery. Medina-Lopez faces two additional charges—one for attempted bank robbery and another for attempted Hobbs Act robbery.

Their crime spree began on June 1 at a Family Dollar store on Independence Avenue, where they reportedly stole a cash register. Three days later, they allegedly robbed the Holy Rosary Credit Union on Campbell Street, getting away with several thousand dollars.

On June 7, the pair reportedly attempted—but failed—to rob El Mercado Fresco on Independence Avenue. Then on June 12, they successfully robbed Central Bank in Independence, escaping with over $1,000.

Medina-Lopez is also accused of attempting to rob the Holy Rosary Credit Union again on June 14, though that attempt failed.

Court documents did not reveal how investigators linked the suspects to the robberies.
