KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Rashee Rice has been sentenced to jail time for his role in a high-speed multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason.
The 24-year-old faced eight charges following the incident, including one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.
Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing serious injury.
Sentence Details
On Thursday, a Dallas County judge sentenced Rice to:
-
Five years probation
-
30 days in jail (to be served intermittently over the five-year probation)
Rice’s attorney, Royce West, clarified the jail time would not be served all at once.
Rashee Rice Issues Apology
In a statement following the sentencing, Rice expressed remorse:
“There have been a lot of sleepless nights and thinking about the damages my actions caused… I urge everyone to drive the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart.”
He added, “I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize to the innocent drivers and their families.”
Rice has also paid over $115,000 in medical restitution to the victims, according to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
He received deferred adjudication, meaning his case will be dismissed if he successfully completes probation.
The Crash
The crash occurred when Rice’s Lamborghini and teammate Teddy Knox’s Corvette were caught on dashcam racing at speeds exceeding 115 mph. Six vehicles were involved in the wreck.
Footage showed both Rice and Knox fleeing the scene on foot.
NFL Suspension Likely
Now that the legal case is resolved, the NFL is expected to issue a suspension, potentially spanning multiple games in the 2025 season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell previously said the league would wait until the legal process concluded before taking action under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Though Rice played during the 2024 season (before being sidelined by injury), his role as the Chiefs’ No. 1 wide receiver in 2025 is now in doubt. The team is expected to lean on second-year receiver Xavier Worthy to lead the offense in his absence.
The NFL has not yet released an official statement on Rice’s discipline.
