MIDWEST CITY, OKLA. – A July 4 fireworks dispute ended violently after a man was reportedly pistol-whipped during a confrontation, according to Midwest City police.
Officers responded to an assault near NE 10th Street and N Air Depot Boulevard, where a caller believed he had been shot in the head. When police arrived, they found the victim with a deep cut above his left eye and blood on his face.
The victim told officers he lives nearby and initially asked a group setting off fireworks in a front yard to stop. Although they agreed, he said they resumed shortly after, prompting him to return and remind them that fireworks are illegal within city limits.
At that point, a heavyset man confronted the victim and told him to “stop talking to a bunch of females,” according to the affidavit. The man then allegedly pulled out a pistol and began striking the victim in the head. The victim believed the gun went off during the assault and feared he had been shot. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. While there, he told police he had recorded the incident on his phone. The video captured the moment he approached the group, but then went dark when the phone was dropped during the assault. A single gunshot is heard in the footage, followed by shouting.
Police later identified the suspect as 42-year-old Mario Glover. He now faces charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
