COLORADO SPRINGS — A man initially reported missing and at-risk is now facing multiple arson charges after being linked to several fires set over the past seven months, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
On Monday, July 14, 21-year-old Brandon Hugney was reported found safe after leaving home two days earlier, on July 13. Due to specific health concerns, CSPD had classified him as “at-risk” during the time he was missing.
That same day, a grass fire broke out in the 1500 block of Space Center Drive near North Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard, threatening the safety of nearby residents. Responding officers quickly identified Hugney as the suspected arsonist behind the fire.
Further investigation by CSPD’s arson team revealed that Hugney is allegedly connected to several other fires in recent months, including an April 21 blaze at the former Joe’s Crab Shack near the Citadel Mall.
Hugney was arrested on Monday and is now facing multiple arson-related charges.
