Suspect Leads Mississippi Authorities to Body of Missing Kansas City Woman

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) — After nearly two months of searching, law enforcement officials in Mississippi have recovered the body of a woman missing from Kansas City, believed to be Ladatra Williams.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Ryan Everett, the discovery came late Monday after an eight-hour interview with Charles Matthew Sims, who had been in custody since July 11 in connection with the case. During questioning, Sims reportedly told investigators they were “searching in the wrong place” and ultimately agreed to lead them to the body.

At approximately 2 p.m., Sheriff Everett, a deputy, and Sims entered a wooded area in the southeastern part of the county. By 11:30 p.m., teams from multiple agencies, including the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), FBI, and forensic experts from Mississippi State University, exhumed a shallow grave and recovered the remains of a woman.

While investigators believe the body is that of Ladatra Williams, DNA testing will be conducted to confirm the identification.
